STFBC Files Lawsuit on Behalf of Miami Pedestrian Bridge Collapse Victim's Family

|

Attorney Gary Fox of Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain has recently filed a lawsuit on behalf of the children of a worker who was severely injured when a pedestrian bridge collapsed in Miami in early 2018. The man involved in the accident suffered significant, permanent injuries that have resulted in permanent total disability. Our legal team is fully committed to helping those affected by catastrophic incidents such as this fight for the justice that they deserve.

We believe that gross negligence led to the collapse of the bridge that resulted in the death of 6 people and injuries to 10 more. We will not stop until those responsible are held accountable and those affected by it are fairly compensated for the damages that they have suffered.

What Happened?

Around 2 p.m. on March 15, a new pedestrian bridge meant to connect the Florida International University’s main campus to off-campus housing located across a six-lane highway collapsed. Several cars were crushed under the weight of the bridge after it went down and pedestrians were rushed to local hospitals for treatment.

The bridge, which had opened just five days prior, had been celebrated as a “one-of-a-kind” project.

It was later discovered that the project’s lead engineer had put in a call to state officials days before the collapse warning them about cracks that he had seen in the structure. The Florida Department of Transportation later released the transcript. In it, the engineer says that there is “some cracking that’s been observed on the north end of the span, the pylon end of that span we moved this weekend.” Tragically, that voicemail wasn’t heard until after the fatal accident as the employee who received it was out of the office on assignment.

Helping Miami Bridge Collapse Victims Seek Justice

In the lawsuit, our Miami personal injury law firm claims several defendants played a role in the ultimate collapse of the bridge and the catastrophic injuries that our client, as well as multiple others, sustained. We outline the different ways in which each of these parties contributed to the collapse. This includes failure to recognize the severity of the cracks, failure to warn individuals about the dangers of being on or around the bridge, and more.

We believe multiple failures from multiple parties caused this tragedy to occur.

Throughout the years, our trial attorneys have earned a reputation for being passionate advocates on behalf of those who have been injured by the reckless, careless, and negligent behavior of others. We have helped our clients win millions of dollars—money that has been used to help them recover and rebuild their lives. We stand ready to do the same for those impacted by this horrific accident. We will do everything that we can to help this man, and his family, move forward with their lives.
