Plantation, FL Shopping Center Explosion Leaves Over a Dozen Injured

On Saturday. July 6, around 11:30 a.m., a shopping center in Plantation, FL exploded. The Fountains, located in Broward County and outside of Miami, was rocked by the blast, leaving somewhere between 15 and 20 people injured in the aftermath. At least two of them were seriously injured.

Per a Plantation Fire Department official, there was an active gas leak and ruptured gas lines when they arrived; however, it has not been confirmed whether or not that's the cause of the explosion.

It's reported that windows in the center's LA FItness gym were blown out, sending wreckage flying with large pieces of debris found as far as 100 yards across the street.

The official also reported that several units within the shopping center suffered severe destruction.

"All stores and businesses in the area of the Fountains Plaza and the Plantation Marketplace plaza near LA Fitness will be shut down until further notice until Fire Personnel can determine that it is safe to return," said the Plantation police in a tweet. "Please do not come into this area if possible."
